FEASIBILITY STUDY PREPARED FOR 10,000 CATFISH FARM

PROPOSAL TO CONSULT AND SET UP A FISH FARM OF 10,000 CAPACITY OF CLARIAS

In fish farming the first culture chamber used was the earthen pond, and because of the requirements about the quality of soil which must have 75% clay and retain water. Other qualities which disqualifies other farm sites brought about a concrete pond in which one can culture fish in any farm site even in the compound. But because of some problems in concrete ponds brought  about the latest pond designed which is tarpaulin pond, this pond is mobile and dose not need one going into any form of constructions.
CALL US ON 08032861326 FOR HELP AND CONSULTANCY.

LIMITATIONS OF CONCRETE PONDS

1.      The chemical from the cement affects the fish all year because of the reaction with water.

2.      The concrete pond is prone to be plastered every season because of the cracks as a result of reactions with water and cement .

3.      The cost is high.

4.      The growth rate of the fish is not encouraging.

5.      A lot of treatment is needed before the pond can be used after construction.

ADVANTAGES OF TARPAULINE POND

1.      You can culture fish even inside your compound.

2.      You can use a temporally site to start your fish farm.

3.      It is the ideal replacement for earthen pond.

4.      It enhance faster growth of fish.

5.      It makes the fish to feel as if the environment is natural.

6.      It is cheaper and does not need servicing all season.

COST IMPLICATION IN USING A TAPOLINE POND.

A pond of 10ft by 20ft will cost N50,000 and galvanized pipe used for the stands for the 20ft by 10ft by 4ft is N18,000, making the total cost of the pond to be N68,000.

COST OF POST FINGERLING OR THE FISH SEED.

We have three breeds, and their prizes on growth rate differs, we have one of N10, N20 and N35 respectively. And after six months of culture their growth rate will be 1kg, 1.5kg, and 2.5kg respectively.

So the cost for N10 is N100,000

                         N20 is N200,000

                         N35 is N350,000

But the size of the fish determines the market, if 1kg of fish is sold at N400 the 2.5kg will be sold at N1000 plus.

COST OF FEEDING

In fish farming the cost of feeding goes up to 75% of the money spent in fish farming and that is why is good that one must culture the breed that will grow well.

N1000 fishes will consume 50 bags of  feed  and a bag is sold  at N4500

50x10 ponds = N500 bags in all

500x4500 = 2,250000.

WATER TREATMENT

This treatment is done in water before stocking fish to prevent shock and any form of bacterial in the water. Each pond will cost N5000

5000x10 ponds = N50,000

GROWTH BOOSTER

This is a multi mineral supplement mixed together with the  feed everyday to boost its growth

1 liter is sold at N1000 and 100 liters are required which is = N100,000

PLUMBING

The outlet and inlet connection of the ponds will cost N100,000.

THERE ARE MANY WAYS OF REDUCING THE COST OF FEEDING, AT LEAST SAVING 20% OF THE COST OF FEEDING. THE BENEFITS  IS FOR THOSE AM CONSULTING FOR

TOTAL COST

Cost of Ponds : 65,000x10  = N680,000

Cost of fish seed :                 = 350,000

Cost of feeding:                     =2,250000

Cost of water treatment     = 50,000

Cost of booster :                   = 100,000

Plumbing:                              =100,000

TOTAL:                                      = 3,530000

COST OF INPUT                        = N3,530000

OUT PUT

When the good breed is culture and fed well the average weight of the fish will be 2kg.

And at whole sale price will be at N700 and if 9000 fishes survives the out put will be 9000xN700 which is = 6,300000

Gain  = output – input = 6,300000 – 3,530000 = 2,770000

A PREPARED FEASIBILITY STUDY ON HYBRID CATFISH OF 500 FINGERLINGS

Feasibility study on 500 fingerlings of highbrid catfish from day one to hervesting stage using a fibire glass tank to serve as a pond for the culture.
Two tanks were used for the purpose of sorting the fish to avoid mortality due to carnibalism. Catfish is a carnibalistic in nature and therefore the jumpers are been sorted out to avoid eating others in the process(culturing process)
Input:
One fingerling of highbrid catfish sold at 20 naira per one is preferred. 20x500=10,000.
Tanks, two tanks of 40,000 one each =80,000.
Feeding: 12 bags of forign feed cupens is prefered and at 5,000 naira each. 5,000x12=60,000.
Water treatment and drugs = 5,000
Transportation; 5,000.
Aeratore used in supplying oxygen 20,000.
Pvc pipe and inlet and outlet facility; 5,000.
Tatal 185,000. Hundred and eighty five thousand naira.
Output:
After 5months of culture, the average weight of one fish is 1.5kg and one kg is sold at 600 naira. Then 1.5kg is sold at 900 naira per one fish.
After mortality encountered 490 fishes survived.
490 x 900 naira =441,000.
441,000-185,000 =256,000 profit made after 5 months of culture.
So for the next culture, cost for aerator and tank will be excluded then giving 256,000 + 80,000 +20,000 = 356,000 thousand niara after every successful culture.

FEASIBILITY REPORT/STUDY ON FISH FARMING

We undertake feasibility study on earthen and concrete pond construction, fish feed production etc.Feasibility reports discusses the practicality,
and possibly the suitability and compatibility
of a given project, both in physical and
economic terms. It also discusses the
desirability of the proposed project from the
view point of those who would be affected by it. One way to plan the start up process and
resolve many of the issues that may arise is
to carry out - or commission - a formal
feasibility study It therefore follows that every
project must have a feasibility report done
before its commencement. We undertake the preparation of feasibility
reports for fish farming businesses from
table size fish production, fingerling
production, snail, piggery production and
also on fish feed production all at moderate
prices. Send mail to kingswayfisheries@gmail.com or

HATCHERY SETUP IN FISH FARMING

Hatcheries used in producing catfish are simple facilities that use
flow-through tanks holding about
90 to 100 gallons of water for egg
incubation and fry rearing. The
most critical factor for a successful hatchery is a dependable supply of
high-quality water. Egg hatching tanks are equipped
with a series of paddles spaced
along the length of the tank to
allow wire-mesh baskets to fit
between them. One or two egg
masses are placed in each basket and the paddles gently rotate
through the water to provide
water circulation and aeration. The
incubation time varies from 5 to 8
days depending upon water temperature. At hatching, the fry (called sac-fry
at this point) fall or swim through
the wire-mesh basket and school in
tight groups. Sac-fry are siphoned
into a bucket and transferred to a
fry rearing tank. Aeration in fry rearing tanks is provided by
surface agitators or by air bubbled
through airstones. Initially, sac-fry are not fed
because they derive nourishment
from the attached yolk sac. Over a
3- to 5-day period after hatching
they absorb the yolk sac and turn
black. At that time fry (now called swim-up fry) swim to the water
surface seeking food. Swim-up fry
must be fed 6 to 12 times a day for
good survival and growth. Fry are
fed nutritionally complete feed for
2 to 7 days before they are transferred to a nursery pond. Fingerling Production Culture practices for fingerling
production are relatively
standardized across the industry,
especially when compared to the
wide variety of production
strategies used to grow food-sized catfish. Fry grow faster when
stocked at lower densities but
more space is required to grow
larger fingerlings at lower
densities. Stocking rate is therefore
a compromise between benefits of producing large fingerlings for
foodfish growout and the
economics of producing more small
fingerlings in less space. Fish are
fed a manufactured feed and
grown to fingerling size (3 to 8 inches long) over a 5 to 10 month
period. Fish are either allowed to
continue growing in their original
nursery ponds or are harvested
and transferred to other ponds for
growout to stocker-sized fish of 0.1 to 0.25 pounds or to food-sized fish
of 1.2 to 2.5 pounds. It is important to fertilize nursery
ponds so that they contain
abundant natural foods to promote
growth until the fry are large
enough to switch to manufactured
feeds. A finely ground feed should be offered once or twice daily to
train fish to accept the feed. As the
fish grow, feed particle size is
increased. A month or so after
stocking, the fish (now called
fingerlings) are fed once or twice daily to satiation, using a small
floating pellet with 45 to 65
percent crude protein. Because fingerling populations are
particularly susceptible to
infectious diseases, disease
management takes on added
importance in this stage of
production. Survival of catfish fry to fingerlings varies greatly from
pond-to-pond depending on the
initial condition of the nursery
pond, losses to bird predation, and
the incidence of infectious diseases.
Average survival from fry stocking to fingerling harvest in excess of 60
percent across all ponds on the
farm is considered to be very
good.

ADVANCES MADE ON FISH FARMING IN NIGERIA

The catfish business has presently
gotten to a revolutionary stage
with over 55 innovations that have taken place. For instance, when we were in the University, we were taught that catfish would grow to 200grammes in 9 months if you stock at 2 fish per square metres. But today, people stock 300 fish per square metres and still grow their catfish to 1.5kg on the average in 5 months". "That is why so many people are now showing interest in catfish.
Take for instance, Singapore is a
like a dot on our map. It is about
the size of Bayelsa State
with a population of about 3.5million people. Yet, they are
responsible for 30 per cent of the
world's tropical fish. This makes
their airport the second largest
cargo airport in the world; and
tropical fish is the singular largest airfreight item in Singapore". "One of the amazing things I
discovered that is responsible for
the tremendous success that
Singapore has recorded in catfish
production is, an incredible palm-
size , convex glass lens that is used to actually enhance agricultural production. Nigeria has recorded a lot of succes in development in aquaculture and fisheries, one of this is hybrid of fingerlings production and fish feed production plus many other improvement in pond construction system etc.
