Remove all brush, trees, and
vegetation from the site before
the pond is filled. This will
easily help to keep fish
populations in balance and
obstructions out of the way. Late summer or early fall is
when new ponds should be
constructed in time to fill them. 5. Dam Maintenance: Immediately after construction,
establish permanent grassy
vegetation on the top and sides
of the dam. Once established,
regular cutting on the top and
sides of the dam will keep trees from growing, preventing weak
