became a section of the Department of Commerce and
Industries. 3. Early 1950s By the 1950s, the organization had grown to become the
Federal Fisheries Services. In 1954, the operations of the branch were split between the federal and regional (Northern, Western and Eastern) governments. 4. Late 1950s to the 1970s Fish catch increased tenfold between 1960 and 1970. 5.
